COMPETITION _ The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association ASCERis launching the twelfth Tile of Spain Awards in Architecture and Interior Design.

This competition is designed to recognize a piece of work in the field of architecture and interior design which uses ceramic tiles made in Spain. The competition will distinguish the building work which best enhance the new applications, advantages and versatility of this material as well reflects the most innovative reinterpretation of ceramics in architectural and decorative projects. 

The competition is open to any person, entity or institution, either individually or as a team. Professional architects, interior designers, architectural engineers, landscape designers and decorators of all nationalities can be in for the Tile of Spain Award. 

Professional entries must indicate the submittal category they are attached: 

    - Architecture: new buildings, renovation or refurbishment of existing buildings and interventions in urban redevelopment or outdoor landscapes 

    - Interior design: decoration of interior spaces in new buildings, as part of improvement or refurbishment projects, or installations created for short term events. 

The projects must have been completed between January 2011 and October 2013. First- place designers will be awarded in each categories with 17,000 €. All submittals must be received by 29th October 2013.

Last year first prize in the Architecture category was won by Cooking school in ancient slaughterhouse (Medina Sidonia, Cadiz) by Sol89 - María González and Juanjo Lopez de la Cruz.

First prize in the Interior Design category went to the project for a University Teacher Training College by Ramón Fernández-Alonso y Asociados. In this case, the judges stressed the “original feature of bringing ceramic tiles from the exterior into the interior of the building”.
