Multifunctional Theatre

This multi-purpose theatre was designed to offer the community a space for hosting many different types of performances and events. Square in plan and with a compact prismatic exterior volume, the building is similar in typology to the city tower, a symbol of the community and a reference to the public life of its citizens.
Within, a cavernous full-height volume comprises the central space. It is surrounded by galleries on three sides and on three levels, and by the stage on the fourth side. The building's functions are arranged on three floors. The main 300-seat auditorium has a level floor and is equipped with retractable riser to form the stalls for the performances which require this type of seating. With the risers stored away, the floor space of the auditorium space can also be used for various other types of events and exhibitions, with the seating stored away. There are also a small performances areas at the basement level and on the roof. The multi-purpose character of the building is based on the range of available performances spaces and on the flexibility of the main auditorium, easily adaptable and readily transformed by means of the retractable seating thus allowing a variety of configurations. On the side towards the park, the wall behind the stage can be opened, transforming the auditorium into a stage for outdoor performances. The exterior materials are Botticino marble, wood and glass. Inside, concrete, masonry and plastered surfaces are painted grey in correspondence to the circulation spaces. The main auditorium is finished entirely in wood. The strips and slats are arranged and carved in a vertical and horizontal design, resulting in an acoustic "configuration", while at the same time defining the appearance and the architectural character of the space.

Il teatro polifunzionale è concepito per offrire alla collettività un luogo dove siano possibili diversi diversi tipi di eventi e manifestazioni. L' edificio con pianta quadrata e volume esterno prismatico compatto evoca la tipologia della torre civica, simbolo della collettività e riferimento per la vita pubblica della cittadinanza.
All' interno un volume unitario cavo a tutt' altezza comprende lo spazio centrale circondato da gallerie su tre lati e su tre piani e lo spazio scenico sul quarto lato.
L' edificio, contenuto nella pianta di metri 22,40×22,40, è articolato in tre piani utilizzabili: la sala principale di 300 posti, con pavimento piano, è attrezzata con una tribuna telescopica per la formazione della platea per gli spettacoli che lo richiedano, ma resta uno spazio disponibile per eventi e manifestazioni di diverso tipo con la tribuna richiusa a scomparsa, una sala piccola al piano interrato e una sala open-air sulla copertura. La vocazione polifunzionale dell' edificio è basata sulla promiscuità degli spazi tra di loro e sull' adattabilità, allestibilità e trasformabilità della sala maggiore tramite la tribuna modulabile per diverse configurazioni. Sul lato verso il parco, il fondale dello spazio scenico attrezzato con un parete apribile, trasforma la sala in un palcoscenico per gli spettacoli all' aperto.
I materiali all' esterno sono il marmo di Botticino, il legno e il vetro, all'interno il calcestruzzo, l'intonaco e le murature tinteggiate di grigio per gli spazi di circolazione, mentre la sala principale è realizzata completamente in legno di faggio con listelli e doghe disposti ed intagliati con un disegno e una modulazione verticale ed orizzontale che creano la "configurazione" acustica e al tempo stesso definiscono l'immagine e il carattere architettonico dello spazio.
