Burkard Meyer Architekten BSA
Architecture Firm Baden / Switzerland

Our dealings with basic architectural principles and concepts on different scales have shaped our actions and our commitment in practice and teaching since the office was founded by Urs Burkard and Adrian Meyer in 1968. We believe that the conditions and issues in architecture are subject to constant change to the permanence of concepts and solutions inherent in architecture. The adaptation to specific tasks takes place in the awareness that architecture can draw on the wealth of history, but that the newly emerging projects must always primarily provide an answer to future ideas of living together.
We have been pursuing this claim since 2020 in a circle of seven partners who, in addition to their different professional skills, bring a wealth of experience in the project planning and implementation of complex buildings as architects and general planners. We employ around thirty people in Baden and work on projects with different uses and sizes throughout Switzerland, which are characterized by a wide range of topics. This is substantiated by the Bären high-rise building in Ostermundigen, the two new Baselland psychiatric buildings in Liestal and the Kerenzerberg sports center in Filzbach, as well as the new children's hospital and women's clinic in Lucerne.
In addition to the classic activities of an architect's office, whose orders are mainly based on competition successes, we also take our responsibility as designers of the built environment seriously by sitting on association committees and juries. Oliver Dufner is also involved in teaching as a professor for design and construction at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
