Hamish Monk Architecture

The practice, Hamish Monk Architecture was formed in early 2009 after receiving a series of exciting commissions. Prior to starting HMA, Hamish worked for a number of practices both in New Zealand and abroad, including 8 years in the UK . Whilst in London Hamish took a lead design role on a number of complex, high profile projects throughout the UK and other areas of Europe. Most recently he was employed by Skidmore Owings and Merill as a Design Studio Head, with responsibility for project teams on a number of large scale, mixed-use, regeneration schemes, many of which have developed from successful competition entries. Hamish has a diverse range of experience, from small scale residential work through to major master planning projects. Career highlights include working on a City Archive and Cultural Centre for Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridge Station Area Master plan, Admirala Lazareva - a 105,000 sqm mixed-use development in St. Petersburg and Olympiysky Business Centre in Moscow. Through extensive collaboration with his clients, to understand their aspirations and objectives, he has been able to design and deliver unique architectural solutions of the highest quality. Hamish has a keen interest in environmental sustainability and the impact/contribution of buildings on both built and natural environments, the principles of which have been employed in much of his work.
