In 2009 the City of Copenhagen took the untraditional decision of creating a new work place beneath Hauser Plads for the city’s Cleaning Facilities Centre (Center for Renhold). A place as the base for the city’s 75 street cleaners plus storage space for street cleaning vehicles with facilities like showers, a canteen, parking spaces and offices. In the same year KBP.EU won the public space re-design of Købmagergade Kopenhagen’s main shopping street and three adjacent squares Hauser Plads, Kultorvet and Trinitatis Kirkeplads. In the winning design Hauser Plads was designed as a public playground. The Municipality of Copenhagen asked KBP.EU to also design the transformation of the underground car park . KBP.EU considered this transformation and re-design of Hauser Plads’s public space to be an integral task. The patio with its curved glass façade creates a special light in the offices and meeting rooms in the former garage. Its elegant opening connects the Center for Renhold with the playground of Hauser Plads. The playground is a green oasis in the vibrant historic city centre of Copenhagen. Its artificial landscape is bordered by a white and transparent fencing and a dozen conifers. The design was created in close cooperation with the lying near schools and kindergartens in order to meet the modern demands of a challenging playground.
