The proposal for the new funeral home in Sant Joan Despí arise from understanding the intervention as the end of the urban ensemble formed by the Fontsanta park and the existing cemetery. Its location is based on the following criteria: - Improve the existing cemetery facilities with a new funeral home that will complement the current offered services, using construction systems and technical solutions that will promote sustainability and energy efficiency. - Dignify the entrance of the existing cemetery, which is quite degraded, organizing arranging and equipping it with differentiated pedestrian and parking areas. - Integrate landscaping in the proposal respecting the park character. The place should have, given its urban location, preserving and reforesting the existing green slopes around the intervention area and incorporating part of the building volume to the existing topography The axis of the existing cemetery organizes the proposal, in the North the new building is implanted and in the south a parking lot is connected with the existing roads. The entrance axis to the existing cemetery becomes an access plaza relating the 3 main parts (cemetery, funeral house and parking lot). Around these areas the existing vegetation is increased in order to complement the park character the site has. The building integration on site parts from the adaptation to the existing topography, with a set of pitched roofs on the terrain. The vegetation treatment of part of these roofs pretends to fade with the adjacent green slopes and improve the vision of the ensemble from the perimeter streets, on a higher level. With this strategy, in addition, the apparent building volume is reduced, lowering the vision of the construction and increasing the green surfaces. The 700 sq meters floor plan of the building, lays out an organization in two areas clearly differentiated, by a public area composed by set of rooms designed to serve the users of the facility and a private area composed by the needed service rooms for the deceased preparation and the coffins movement between them. A system of patios completes the layout of the floor plan, these patios organize, rank and illuminate the spaces and establish filters between different ambiances. The structural system is composed of walls and reinforced concrete slabs formed with pinewood boards and corten steel pillars made of flat bars. All these elements define the building image and character providing simplicity to the materiality of the piece. The materialization is completed with natural stone pavements and wooden vertical facing producing interior warmth. The steel pillars generate a light gradient, establishing visual filters and protecting the interior from the direct sunlight. The materiality generated by the assortment of exposed structural element textures together with the natural light qualify and determinate the atmospheres of each space, accompanying the visitor’s mourning at every turn. In this way each space is illuminated by a specific light different from the rest. (Esp) La propuesta para el nuevo tanatorio de Sant Joan Despí parte del reconocimiento del ámbito de actuación como final del conjunto urbano que configura el parque de la Fontsanta y el cementerio existente. Su implantación se fundamenta en los siguientes criterios: - Mejorar los servicios del cementerio existentes con un nuevo tanatorio que complemente la oferta de servicios actual, desplegando sistemas constructivos y soluciones técnicas que favorecen los principios de sostenibilidad y eficiencia energética. - Dignificar el acceso del cementerio existente, que se encuentra bastante degradado, organizándolo, ordenándolo y equipándolo con zonas peatonales y de aparcamiento diferenciadas. - Integrar paisajísticamente la propuesta, respetando el carácter de parque que el lugar tiene que tener, dada su situación urbana, preservando y reforestando los taludes vegetales existentes alrededor del ámbito de implantación e incorporando parte de la volumetria del edificio en la topografía existente. El eje de acceso del cementerio existente organiza la propuesta, se implanta el nuevo edificio al norte de este y al sur se desarrolla una pieza de aparcamiento que se conecta a la vitalidad existente. El eje de acceso al cementerio existente se convierte en una plaza de acceso que pone en relación las 3 piezas principales (cementerio, tanatorio y aparcamiento). Alrededor de estos ámbitos se refuerza la vegetación existente para completar el carácter de parque que respira el lugar. La integración al entorno del edificio parte de la adaptación a la topografía existente, mediante unas cubiertas inclinadas que recogen el terreno y del tratamiento vegetal de gran parte de estas cubiertas que pretenden fundirse con los taludes vegetales adyacentes y mejorar la visión que se tiene del conjunto desde las calles perimetrales, que quedan a una cota más elevada. Con esta estrategia además se reduce el volumen aparente del edificio, reduciendo la visión de lo construido y aumentando las superficies vegetales. La planta del edificio, de 700 m2, dispone una organización que ordena el edificio en dos ámbitos claramente diferenciados, por un lado el ámbito público formado por el conjunto de estancias pensadas para servir a los usuarios de la instalación y por otro lado el ámbito privado configurado por las piezas de servicio necesarias para la preparación de los difuntos y el movimiento de los féretros entre estas. Un sistema de patios completa la organización de la planta, estos patios ordenan, jerarquizan e iluminan los espacios a la vez que establecen filtros entre los diferentes ambientes. El sistema estructural se compone de muros y losas de hormigón armado encofrados con tablones de madera de pino y pilares de acero corten conformados con pletinas. Todos estos elementos definen la imagen y el carácter del edificio, aportando sencillez a la materialidad de la pieza. La materialización se complementa con pavimentos de piedra natural y revestimientos verticales de madera que aportan calidez a los interiores. Los pilares de acero generan graduaciones lumínicas, establecen filtros visuales y protegen el interior de la incidencia directa del sol. La materialidad que genera el repertorio de texturas de los elementos estructurales vistos juntamente con la luz natural califica y determinan los ambientes que se respiran en cada espacio, acompañando el duelo de los visitantes a cada paso. De este modo, cada espacio queda iluminado por una luz específica y diferente del resto.
