PROJECT FOR THE REARRANGEMENT AND REQUALIFICATION OF THE PUBLIC BOARDWALK AREAS, INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

The reshape of the street by the sea and the system of the neighbouring areas around the City Hall, the Castle and the Church, aims to be the main requalifying incentive of a fragmented and irregular urban texture: it’s made for local users and its goal is to become a “urban living room” for the summer-oriented tourism. It will guarantee new promotional tools for the island, its sea and its territory.

The project’s inspiration is to find a continuous and recognizable path that is able to compare different situations and contexts by being an aggregating element for both the private buildings and the institutional areas.

The project defines the areas of “staying” and “moving” in constant relation with each other. “Staying” areas are identified by equipped platforms, protected and shady areas thanks to natural or artificial systems, sitting systems with chairs or swimming-pool steps;

“moving” areas are continuous and protected pedestrian paths, well-sized, obstacles-free, smoothly adapted in case of different heights or levels, floored with uniform materials, put with linear composition and schemes, to create a clear contrast with the sea’s fluidity, always present and visible.
