An open area formed at the place where two or more streets meet.
The dictionary’s definition for “square” describes the spatial conditions and highlights its architecture elements. Bonomi square in Romentino respects all the necessary (but not sufficient) conditions to be included in the category. What the definition is missing, as it is, is the interaction between humans and space, the use that is made of it and the role assigned by the community. A home with no inhabitants is just the mere sum of physical elements which is made of: four walls and a roof.
Seeing the new town hall as a starting point, Bonomi square acquires irregular borders that “touch” very different conditions. The choice was to keep the distance from the borders and to interpret the “respect verge” in a kind of decisive way. So, we decided to add a border, made of neutral materials, with no plot whatsoever.
