The redevelopment of the building acts as an urban reconnection tool by downsizing driveway surfaces in favor of pedestrian and bicycle surfaces. The project takes advantage of the planned reduction of the roadway to create a green belt that connects to the planted area present at the urban edge.
The building thus comes within a pedestrian context that extends in the direction of the historic center.
The intervention on the building is configured on the one hand as a retrofitting and on the other hand as an extension on the street front. The added portion houses the new entrance on the ground floor and customer waiting spaces on the upper floors, volumetrically characterized by large openings and partial setback at the base.
The design respects the existing concrete structure, following a philosophy of thrift and optimization of resources. The lattice trusses that allow the ground floor to have rooms free of vertical supports, freed from the infill that encompassed them, accompany the ascent of the new open staircase that connects the entrance to the first floor, becoming elements that characterize the space with their own sculptural articulation.
