Hunan Lu Villa | Vudafieri Saverino Partners

Hunan Lu Villa è un’esclusiva dimora situata nel cuore della French Connection di Shanghai, un’area divenuta dagli anni ’20 un distretto dalla forte connotazione internazionale. 

La residenza risale proprio al 1920 ed è stata acquistata dall’attuale proprietario in stato di semi rovina. La struttura dell’edificio è stata oggetto di un importante intervento di restauro che ha coinvolto tutte le aree, dal giardino alla facciata, passando per gli spazi interni. 

Un intervento il cui filo conduttore è stato l’incontro tra due tradizioni distinte: da un lato la volontà del committente di rievocare moderni e lussuosi spazi europei, dall’altro il rispetto del contesto storico, con la ripresa di motivi tipici cinesi. 

Nella realizzazione della facciata è stata fondamentale l’attenta analisi dei materiali utilizzati nella Shanghai degli anni ’20: la combinazione di marmorino giallo chiaro, ciottoli di fiume e pietra grigia crea un perfetto equilibrio, esaltando l'eleganza dell'edificio. L’esterno della struttura è stato completamente ridisegnato, con l’aggiunta dell’ultimo piano e delle grandi vetrate: elemento iconico che rafforza la relazione tra interno ed esterno.

Hunan Lu Villa is an exclusive residence located in the heart of Shanghai’s French Connection, an area which during the 1920s became a district with a strong international connotation.

The residence was built in 1920 and was bought by the present owner in a semi-ruined state. The building structure has been the object of a significant restoration project, which has involved all the parts, from the garden to the facade, passing through the internal areas. 

An intervention in which the main thread has been the coming together between two distinctive traditions: on the one hand the owner’s desire to re-evoke modern, luxurious European spaces, on the other to respect the historical context, with the revival of typical Chinese patterns.

In the realization of the facade a careful analysis of the materials used in 1920s Shanghai has been fundamental: the combination of light yellow marble, river pebbles and grey stone creates a perfect equilibrium, exalting the building’s elegance. The external building structure has been completely redesigned, with the addition of the top floor and of the large windows: an iconic element which reinforces the relationship between the interior and exterior.
