Farmhouse | Sergio Pascolo

Located in an agricultural complex at the edge of the city of Hamburg, the ancient farmhouse has been transformed into a 3-floor home without modifying the existing volume or the characteristics of the exterior by working within the dichotomy between the historic traditional envelope and the new interior spatiality.
The tri-partition of the ground floor, which used to be the stable, was maintained with a “central nave” defined by the wooden bearing structure, resulting in a large central living room, a study area, a kitchen and a dining area. Partial-height partitions in masonry block define the spaces visually without closing them off. From a 2-meter height the wood structure is left exposed, allowing the space to be perceived as a single large one. The upper floor was rebuilt with a new wooden bearing structure. The volume under the typical vertical thatched roof hosts a new large double height gallery which became the cozy central location to spend family time. More reserved is the balcony on the upper floor where a large window frames the beautiful view of the prairie.

Along with the new radiant floor and wall panels heating, the new masonry walls and the large fireplace located in the center of the living room, act as heat accumulators, contribute to increase environmental comfort while reducing energy consumption.

Situata in un complesso agricolo ai margini della città di Amburgo, il progetto trasforma un'antica fattoria in una casa di 3 piani, senza modificarne il volume esistente e le caratteristiche dell'involucro, lavorando all'interno della dicotomia tra l'aspetto storico tradizionale dell'esterno e la nuova spazialità dell'interno.
La tripartizione del piano terra, precedentemente usata come stalla, è stata mantenuta con una "navata centrale" definita dalla struttura portante in legno e risultante in un ampio soggiorno centrale, una zona studio, un'area pranzo e una cucina. Le partizioni in muratura, alte solo 2 metri, definiscono visivamente gli spazi senza chiuderli, lasciando la struttura in legno viene esposta: l'area viene così percepita come un'unico grande spazio. Il piano superiore è stato ricostruito con una nuova struttura portante in legno. Il volume che si trova sotto il tipico tetto di paglia ospita una nuova grande galleria a doppia altezza la cui accogliente posizione centrale lo rende ideale per trascorrere del tempo in famiglia. Più riservato è il balcone al piano superiore, dove una grande finestra incornicia la splendida vista della prateria.
Insieme al nuovo riscaldamento con pannelli radianti a pavimento e a parete, le nuove pareti in muratura e il grande camino al centro del soggiorno, che hanno funzione di accumulatori di calore, aiutano ad aumentare il comfort ambientale abbassando notevolmente al contempo il consumo energetico.
