Il progetto per la nuova sede della SPG a Ginevra è un progetto di rigenerazione urbana, l’edificio esistente viene risagomato, ampliato di due nuovi livelli fuori terra e di uno interrato. 

La qualità degli spazi di lavoro è il tema centrale che ha portato a ridisegnare completamente la facciata esterna dell’edificio.

Il nuovo sistema di chiusura esterna è costituito da una prima chiusura con triplo vetro (camera calda). Un quarto vetro con camera aerata contiene il pacchetto di veneziane microforate per la regolazione della luce; sulla parte più esterna vi sono ancorati dei frangisole in vetro serigrafato. Le lame in vetro, poste perpendicolarmente alla facciata hanno tre dimensioni principali (cm 20,40, 60) ed un passo variabile che definisce il disegno dell’intera facciata. L’intero sistema occupa uno spessore compreso tra i 40 e gli 80 cm.

Una “superficie a spessore” che partendo dal disegno dell’involucro esterno diventa il corpo dell’architettura, un sistema geometrico che partendo dal disegno delle lame esterne si riverbera sulle partizioni interne, il layout funzionale e la geometria delle pavimentazioni in pietra di Vals con inserti in acciaio inox. Garantire un livello di protezione solare, ma, contemporaneamente, non limitare la visione dall’interno verso l’esterno è stato uno dei primi requisiti con cui il progetto si è misurato.

L’idea è di utilizzare lame in vetro stratificato, cercando un equilibrio tra la capacità schermante ottenuta con la serigrafia delle superfici e la permeabilità della visione.

Le lame in vetro disegnano un involucro “nebuloso” caratterizzato dalla molteplicità di riflessi e trasparenze.

Di notte le lame in vetro illuminate da luci bianche a led mutano l’edificio in una lampada a scala urbana. Un sistema semplice che attraverso la sua reiterazione produce una complessa moltiplicazione delle visioni (interne ed esterne); un’architettura cinetica.

The project for the new headquarters of the SPG in Geneva starts from the conversion of the existing building expanded with two new levels and a new facade involucre. The quality of work spaces is the central theme that has led to completely redesign the outside of the building. The new external closure system is constituted by a first closure with triple glass (hot chamber). A fourth glass with aerated chamber contains the Venetian microperforated blinds for the adjustment of the light; on the outermost part are anchored printed glass shading. The glass blades, placed perpendicularly to the facade have three main dimensions (cm 20, 40, 60) and a variable pitch which defines the design of the entire facade. The entire system occupies a thickness comprised between 40 and 80 cm. A "thick surface" which departs from the outer casing design becomes the body of architecture, a geometric system that, starting from the design of the external blades reverberates on internal partitions, the functional layout and the geometry of the Vals stone paving with stainless steel inserts. To ensure a level of sun protection, but at the same time not limiting the vision from the inside  was one of the first requirements of the project. The idea is to use laminated glass blades, seeking a balance between the shielding capacity obtained with the surface screen printing, and the permeability of the vision. The glass blades draw a "nebulous" wrap characterized by the multiplicity of reflections and transparencies. At night the glass blades illuminated by white LED lights change the building into an urban scale lamp. A simple system that through its reiteration produces a complex multiplication of visions (internal and external); a kinetic architecture.
