On the corner of the Oudeschans and the Recht Boomsloot in Amsterdam, we transformed a shop into a multifunctional space. The owners wished to use it as a hotel, showroom, meeting room or pied-à-terre. Anything, really.

The storage below street-level has been deepened creating a complete second floor. To keep everything as flexible as possible, we put all servant spaces into a large wall unit on both floors. The stairs were placed diagonally across from the skylights, to get as much light as possible in the basement. By placing the stairwell next to the wall unit, it becomes a single element.

The hull with the marvelous rough concrete floor construction has been painted in light tones. The wall unit is materialized in a distinctive way, emphasizing the continuity of the two floors. A number of functions in the wall have been placed into white niches, together forming an abstract composition.

Op de hoek van de Oudeschans en de Recht Boomsloot hebben we een oud winkelpand getransformeerd in een multifunctionele ruimte. De eigenaren wilden het kunnen gebruiken als hotel, showroom, vergaderruimte of pied-a-terre. Eigenlijk alles dus.

De voorraadruimte in het souterrain is uitgegraven en onderkelderd, waardoor er twee volledige etagen zijn ontstaan. Om alles zo flexibel mogelijk te houden hebben we al het dienende programma in een groot wandmeubel gestopt op beide verdiepingen. De trap is schuin tegenover de bestaande koekoeks geplaatst om zoveel mogelijk licht in het souterrain te krijgen. Door het trapgat aan de kastenwand te plaatsen loopt het wandmeubel over twee verdiepingen door.

Het casco met prachtige ruwe betonnen vloerconstructie is in lichte tinten geschilderd. Het wandmeubel is afwijkend gematerialiseerd, waardoor de continuiteit tussen de verdiepingen wordt versterkt. Een aantal functies in de wand zijn in witte nissen geplaatst, die samen een abstracte compositie vormen.
