Giorgio Ferrari, was born in Genoa and graduated in 1960 at Politecnico of Torino, thanks to Carlo Molino who was his mentor. That was an exciting period
of economic boom and of the italian design statement.
“Everybody draws everything. Particularly furniture and lamps. I want to be in the game”.
During the international competition in 1965 and 1966 of MIA (International Furnishings Exhibition) Giorgio was recommended to the committee and to Joe Colombo ( Domus n 435, 448 ) with whom he had a long friendship and a fruitful collaboration (Boucheron in Paris, Elco, XIV Triennale).He started to work in Elco which at that time was composed by Joe Colombo,Bonetto and Steppino. Afterwards Kartell, Stilnovo,
VeArt, Gufram... He was also Achille Castiglioni’s assistant during the course of “Progettazione Artistica per l'Industria” at Politecnico of Torino. He became an ordinary professor and founded “Industrial Design” course in 1979 at Politecnico di Torino.
In 1983 a new studio was born: “Studio De Ferrari Architetti”. The team was composed by young architects of whom he was the mentor.
The “brigade” developed Urban forniture, for instance: Alluminia (nomination for Compasso d’Oro, IGP Decaux, Fantoni TLF...); Forniture and Lighting: Abet, Stildomus, Stilnovo, Kartel, Elco, VeArt, Colli 2 (Victoria & Albert Museum About car design instead: Sicam, Anfia, Bertone...
