ZERIECUADOR carlosizu
In 1984 he graduated in “Construction Engineering” from Florida International University in the United States of America, thanks to a soccer scholarship from FIU. Later, in Ecuador, he obtained many qualifications in the Real Estate business and construction field.
While studying, Carlos held the most diverse jobs in this field, in order “to sustain family, education and to save money. This permitted extensive travelling during his work with ZERI (www.zeri.org). In 2000 he was elected as an exclusive representative of ZERI and Gunter Pauli’s (www.gunterpauli.org) work.
Carlos is dedicated to designing and implementing societies and industries that respond to people’s needs using only what is locally available. He has been a visiting lecturer and professor at universities in South America since 2000. Carlos has taken responsibility for the design of new systems and development concepts based on principles and values, as part of his advisory role, in designing an economic development strategy in Ecuador with the ZERI philosophy.
Carlos says, “If I have been able to pioneer over the past decade it is first and foremost thanks to Gunter Pauli, Carlos Bernal ( ZERI South America) and a few exceptional friends who have inspired me to go beyond even my wildest dreams. Dreams to accept tremendous challenges, to be prepared to risk it all and yet have the confidence that, if everything fails, we still have so many friends and can slowly rise up to the next occasion.”
Despite two unsuccessful experiences in the Construction business, Carlos has never given up. He is dedicated to the construction of sustainable buildings and is now embarking on a successful venture. “I have not come to this world to please,” says Carlos, “so the wise words of Gunter Pauli and the ‘be sustainable’ people, motivate me to work and ensure parallel advances in social development, economic growth and environmental sustainability in Ecuador and South America.”
Carlos was the Head of be sustainable® South America. Perviously he was the founder of ZERI ECUADOR; his entrepreneurial activities span business, culture, science, politics and the environment. Under his leadership, many people pioneered ecological work in Ecuador and South America. Prior to joining the be sustainable® Group, Carlos worked with Gunter Pauli, the Founder of ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives), for 12 years. Carlos has worked with Government, Universities and businesses in Ecuador, and subsequently redesigning production and consumption into clusters of industries inspired by natural systems in Ecuador. He is dedicated to designing and implementing an economy that responds to people’s needs using what is locally available.
