Captcha Architecture
CAPTCHA architecture is a research-based architectural practice founded by Margherita Marri (Grosseto,
1993) and Jacopo Rosa (Valdobbidene,1992). The studio investigates the contemporary condition through the
relationship between architecture, politics, technology and ecology. CAPTCHA architecture was born as a
result of the research ‘Logistics Landscape. Unveiling Protocols’: an investigation into the spaces generated
by the neoliberal geographies of logistics. A broader reflection around this theme has been pursued through
the DON18 lecture series from Microsoft to Microdosing at ETH Zurich and through the curation -for
Milano Arch Week 2019 in the context of the XXII Triennale Milano/ Broken Nature: Design Takes on
Human Survival- of a series of panel discussions and the exhibition Machines of Loving Grace. Some
writings on the topic have been published in StrelkaMag, and in ERA21. The studio has founded in Milan
-together with others- SUPERATTICO, an independent space for contemporary architecture and design.
With its twenty square meters, the space functions as an urban living room that holds together an office, a
container of temporary exhibitions and a collective library with the aim of opening a dialogue between
architecture as a practical profession and architecture as an intellectual work. CAPTCHA architecture in fact
alternates to the profession the academic commitment that it carries out both at Politecnico di Milano as
teaching assistant and in numerous visiting lectures held in academies such as Domus Accdemy, Tu-Wien,
Politecnico di Piacenza. CAPTCHA also teaches at the Architectural Association in London where he is one
of the program head of Possibility of an Island, a visiting school that reflects on the commodification of the
Tuscan landscape. This research on the ambiguous and dual nature between urban and non-urban is deepened
with the project Anonima Agricola, a cultural foundation in the Maremma countryside, for which CAPTCHA
has developed the construction of the building and curated the identity of the new institution. Anonima
Agricola is an opportunity to deeply investigate the theme of techno-pastoral landscapes at the center of the
studio's research, aiming at a deep reflection on the predigested landscape produced by in style construction.
CAPTCHA architecture was awarded in 2022 with a special mention at Premio Architettura Italiana,
promoted by Maxxi and Triennale Milano, and shortlisted for the same prize in 2023. Their work has been
exhibited among others at Venice Architecture Biennale, Triennale Milano, Tiblisi Architecture Biennal and
Centro per L’arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci. Captcha Architecture is currently nominee for the
EuMiesAward 2023.
