All of Backhausens products are produced in the Austrian ‘Waldviertel’ with a sheer focus on premium quality, aesthetics and natural fibre usage, coupled with innovative designs from the company’s one of a kind archive.

HERITAGE

Backhausen’s designs are inspired by an extensive archive which includes over 5,000 original patterns and designs, developed throughout its long history, in collaboration with acclaimed local architects, artists and designers from the Art Nouveau and the Wiener Werkstätte era. The archive is a treasure trove of daily inspiration for Backhausen’s designs and is part of Austria’s cultural history and heritage, therefore is not allowed to leave the country without official authorization. Backhausen’s strength is finding the right balance between tradition and modern technology through experience and creativity.

SUSTAINABILITY

The finest natural fibres are chosen for Backhausen’s finished products such as wool, silk, viscose and cotton, allowing the fabrics to stand out not just in terms of their soft handle, but also in terms of their sustainable properties, an attribute that has become of high significance and is a core value of the company.
