ANDREY BUDKO designs and manufactures wool felt rugs with high tech embroidery. The basis of our rugs (carpets) is a high quality non-woven fabric made from 100% wool. The pattern on the rug is embroidered with ceramic thread. Depending on the design, each rug has between 1,000,000 and 2,000,000 embroidery stitches. Ceramic coating and a special knot structure in the embroidery allows you to get more saturated colors. Natural wool felt is resistant to many types of dirt. Red wine, coffee and even olive oil are removed from our rugs using domestic cleaning products. The non-woven structure of the fabric does not allow dust to get inside the material, leaving dirt only on the surface. This makes our rugs easy to vacuum clean. Wool felt has high wear resistance and is suitable for use in public spaces (hotels, restaurants).

Story

We research the evolution of technologies and cultural heritage in modern world. Our product is a result of a studying the traditional crafts and social mythology. Embroidery is a craft, which was a part of Russian traditional costumes and daily household items. But today it is preserved only in museums and historical exhibitions. Wool felt as a material is best known for the traditional Russian winter boots "valenki", which are today look more like a souvenir than a practical shoe. Our idea is to find new life for technologies and materials, using what digital age has to offer and making it practical again. Our rugs are a tribute to the common memory of the generation born in the 80s and 90s. Factories in the USSR produced millions and millions of carpets a year. They were not of high quality, but they became a real symbol of luxury of Soviet era. The carpet was the most common piece of furniture. Carpet on the wall became the most common backdrop for family photos, and such images can be found in every photo album of every Russian family. The walls of the living rooms of our parents' apartments were proudly adorned with oriental-style carpets. At our grandparent’s, rugs with deers and bears hung near the bed. Our generation has memories of falling asleep looking at these oriental patterns and animals. It so happened that the carpet became part of children's mythology along with fairy tales. And the "carpet on the wall" has become an internet meme now.
We keep the emotional core of Russian carpets and give them new image and aesthetics of nowaday.
