Miduny is an artisanal furniture brand based in Brooklyn and founded by Italian-born architect and product designer Alessandro Preda.

Furniture for the Here and Now

Miduny's pieces aim to be beautiful and timeless while at the same time highly responsive to the demands of today's users.

Culture. All products are designed and prototyped in a Brooklyn workshop. Then, small batches are produced partnering with master artisans in Italy. These family-owned workshops usually house three generations of artisans under one roof. The younger generation is tech-savvy. The older generation has an in-depth knowledge of traditional techniques. Miduny’s pieces embrace both worlds and combine tradition and innovation, bridging the ingenuity of Brooklyn and Italian flair, universally associated with excellent design, fashion, automotive and luxury products.

Uniqueness. Each Miduny piece is built and finished by hand. A unique serial number is hand-stamped on the piece underside.

Flexibility. The rate of change in today's world is unprecedented. Miduny embraces this change and strive to design highly adaptable furniture. For instance, most apartments in urban contexts are compact. The size MiMi Table and Desk is such that it functions well as a desk during the day. Thanks to its lightness and geometry–with the legs positioned unobtrusively at the corners–it can easily turn into a dining table for 4 or 6. Moreover, today people tend to move often. The joinery system that is used during production allows the pieces to be assembled and disassembled as often as required.

Modularity. The size of our MiMi line is modular. Two tables placed side by side, create a Square configuration. Two MiMi Tables and Desks and a MiMi Square Table forms an L-shape. The legs' geometry is such that two legs ganged together look like one, decreasing visual clutter. The notch at the top becomes a decorative element. Ultimately, as desktop computers are becoming rarer in favor of light portable devices, Miduny prefers a flexible furniture design that can be reconfigured from pod to L-shape, to conference table, etc. The hyper specificity of traditional office desks makes them inflexible and limited.

Assemblability. Each product is supplied to the customer with an mounting kit: thanks to an innovative precision joinery system used during production, assembly is made simple and quick.

Sustainability. The joinery system is such that all our products can ship flat in custom-designed packaging, thus making transportation more efficient. All materials come from certified sources–for instance, wood comes from FSC certified forestries. Moreover, all products can stand the test of time: you can assemble and disassemble the pieces as many times as needed.
