Oikoi is a new lighting brand born in Milan in 2018 as an Italian spin-off of a Chinese company that has been a leader in the lighting sector for ten years.
The project stems from the desire to develop a collection that combines the creativity of a team of Italian designers, Erika Baffico and Sebastiano Tonelli and the technical-productive capacity offered by China.
The name Oikoi derives from the Greek word oikos which indicates both the dwelling as the set of rooms that compose it, and the philosophy underlying the habit of living in a place, appropriating a space according to the individual characteristics that each possesses. With this Oikoi underlines its vocation to focus on the desire to propose a new way of designing light through glass, to make domestic and contract spaces an immersive and fluid place where personalized scenarios can be created and, in fact, fully habitable thanks to the versatility of light sources.
Light becomes for Oikoi dialogue, method and matter. A dialogue as a semiotic and effective form; a continuous exchange of knowledge as a driving force for change and innovation and dialogue, which is established between the designers and the company to create a contemporary and sophisticated product, faithful in every detail to the initial project.
The method is the choice of an industrial type production to create objects that maintain an evocative value. The material, the glass, makes the light tangible thanks to its refined textures and finishes. The processing takes place through the use of the industrial molding technique which guarantees quality, perfection in details and durability.
The texture of the glass visible on the lamps becomes a strength that makes them functional and infinitely replicable, diversifying from the blowing method typical of the Italian artisan tradition. The materials used, glass and metal, are durable and fully recyclable, replaceable in every part in the event of breakage. The company's attention to sustainability and the environment is also evident in the choice to use a flat packaging for the transport of products.
