Founded in San Francisco in 1985, STUDIOS Architecture grew with the early high tech companies in the Silicon Valley and from these young innovators learnt to be agile, think about new ways of working and imagine what the future holds. These firms had an innate sense of the vibrant environments that would support innovation and collaboration, as well as retain talent, and STUDIOS continues to draw inspiration from them today.
The firm’s design philosophy is that each project is unique and seeks to “humanize” the spaces we inhabit to create an experience that will foster productivity, well-being and innovation.
A founding premise of the firm is the “studios” concept that is the basis of the company's’ name. Designed to act as a platform of collective intelligence, staff work collaboratively as a team and with clients to conceptualize and execute projects. The diversity of talent thrives on the sense of discovery that comes through collaboration to make for richer and more pertinent solutions with the belief that design has the power to enhance a client’s culture and express what makes a client unique and thrive. STUDIOS believes in architecture that addresses our time and moves us forward to embrace the future.
Today STUDIOS counts 22 Principals and 300 staff worldwide with offices in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington and Mumbai. The Paris office counts 4 Principals, 7 Associate Principals and a total of 70 staff, retaining a very boutique style approach through the collaborative platform set up as a practice. This enables the teams to share experiences and expertise but also to navigate easily between local and global issues and to work as a strong and cohesive community.
