Furniture Architecture

Danish design of the 20th Century coined the term 'møbelarkitektur' meaning 'furniture architecture' to approach an architectonical understanding of design with a strong focus on construction. The expression was used to characterize pieces of furniture that were designed bespoke for particular architectural spaces. schindlersalmerón take on this approach by understanding their products as serial bespoke items that can be adapted to different spatial situations.

History

Since the «Kleiderleiste» (coat rack)—today a classic of «mass customization»—laid the foundation of the company at ETH Zurich's Chair of CAAD in 2002, schindlersalmerón got progressively established in the European furniture sector and now operates mainly in the furnishing of architectural objects. However, as both partners are still involved in design education, the company remains true to its academic roots. In 2015, schindlersalmerón became a limited liability company (GmbH).

Expertise

schindlersalmerón’s expertise lies in the areas of product development, furniture distribution and contract market. Production is outsourced to qualified partner companies that manufacture locally in Europe. All materials used in our production come from Europe and are certified to the ecological standards advised by the City of Zurich. We attach great importance to a personal relation with our production partners, visit them on a regular basis to monitor the quality of the pieces and working conditions under which they are produced in our name.
