INDI come from a small country in the heart of Europe. Coincidentally the shape of Lithuania is similar to a heart as well. Why mention that? Because INDI was launched not as some kind of business plan or a commercial project. It came from the heart of its head designer and founder Simonas Tarvydas, who has a passion for creating, inventing and remaking things. You know what they say – follow your heart. Well he did and still does. This journey became the most inspiring experience that is still evolving and continues to amaze. Quoting Frederick Nietzsche – “He who has a why can endure any how”. Our “why” we started this creative project was that we felt a lack of a pure, clean and homey design for our surroundings. So we decided to create something that would truly embody what we were searching for. Finding the right material was the greatest challenge. Simonas was seeking for something more than just modern aesthetics. We accidentally came up with a simple yet great idea to use paper as our main material. In the age of digital devices, we still use lots of paper sheets for our sketches and ideas. We still do read books, magazines and newspapers. A lot of these paper publishings in some way become waste. But not for us. It took us almost a year to develop an original technique and material that we named RePAPER. Paper that usually seems quite fragile and unstable, in our hands became a tough and sustainable substance. And there it was. In the year of 2014 INDIs first design was created. The KABO lamp instantly caught attention. Its appearance combines the perfect balance of classic shape and contemporary innovative texture. RePAPER material creates a fascinating illusion – objects that appear to be made of heavy concrete are in fact extremely lightweight. That became a key to our success. It inspired us to create an entire series of products that have been annually awarded the National “Good Design” prizes. Now we produce original lamps, clocks, small pieces of furniture and interior décor objects. INDI was presented in a number of prominent international exhibitions: “Le OFF! – Paris Design Week 2018”, “State of design” (Berlin, Germany 2017), „Design Lithuania” (“Paris design week” 2016, 2017), “Jerusalem Design week” (Israel 2017), “Budapest design week 2015”, “Design Lithuania” (Stockholm, Sweeden 2015), “Clerkenwell design week 2015” (London, UK) – to name a few. One of the most important parts in our design strategy is sustainability. We are the first CIRCULAR DESIGN brand in Lithuania. INDI lamps and other RePAPER interior objects can be recycled and reused as a material for future designs. That's how we create the continuous production cycle that ensures responsible consumption and fosters contemporary design. Our brands name comes from the word INDIvidual. That means we focus on each order and make individual changes (in size or color) by preference. Each design is precisely crafted by hand. That makes INDI objects original and unique. We seek to perfect our individual style and aim to create things that would give emotional, aesthetical and ethical satisfaction.
