joval

joval is based on the passion for designing aesthetic furniture made of wood and steel.
The young and creative company was founded 2012 in Munich by career changer and autodidact Jonas Schroeder after several years of work experience in Chicago, Madrid, Montreal, New York and Hamburg. joval is based on an open-minded, unbiased mind-set.

The aim of joval is to develop high-quality and timeless furniture in cooperation with experienced German manufacturers, furniture that people use and enjoy for a long period of time.

Only a few months after the foundation of the company the board of the “blickfang Designmesse”, a design trade fair in Stuttgart, awarded joval as one of the 10 “newcomer” of the fair. This was followed by the first publications in design magazines. About a year after the brand was established, joval was selected for one of the few sponsored booths in the [D3] Professional section of the IMM (international furniture fair) in cologne (January 2014), the second largest design trade fair worldwide. There, the German Design Council awarded joval and its designer Jonas Schroeder with the “Interior Innovation Award 2014 – Best of Best” for the foldable shelving system REBAR.

Since the IMM, we are working to establish our retailer network in Germany, Switzerland (with Jean-Pierre Lanz), and Austria (with Percy Thonet). Our products can be found in about 40 locations, often next to products of renowned furniture brands.

Our collection 2015 with new products, materials, and colors was presented at the IMM 2015 in Cologne. End of 2015 we will introduce several new product families that we developed in the course of the year in cooperation with long-established German manufacturers in our production portfolio.

Design Philosophy

Using our heart and mind, we aim to create products that people identify with due to their aesthetic, their quality and feel, and their functionality. The harmony between these characteristics and peoples’ wish for individuality is the basic idea of underlying all of our furniture creations.

Each product is developed with a lot of attention to details, details that you might not perceive at first sight, but at your second or third. These details are coherent, mathematically derived proportions, repeated measurements, merged line runs and rounded edges, or special surfaces that stand for a pleasant feel and non-visible or decorative connecting components. Behind each detail of our products lies a creative thought.

Production & Quality

joval designs the products and produces hand-made prototypes. The order-related fabrication of the product components is completely “Made in Germany” at specialized wood- and metal-processing factories that, besides joval, manufacture for worldwide renowned brands.

All of the production partners have many years of experience in the furniture production sector and fulfill the highest quality standards. In the fabrication process in addition to skilled workers modern production techniques like computer-operated wood machining (CNC) or laser techniques are used.

The surface treatment of the products with lacquer or powder-coating grants protection against external influences and therefore guarantees a long life-circle.

The final assembly, quality check and packaging is internally carried out by our team. This ensures that only products of perfect quality leave our warehouse.

Due to the flexible production structure every single piece of furniture can be produced with regard to the client’s wishes concerning measurements, material and colors in almost any combination. Requests for special wishes are very welcome.

Sustainability & Environment

joval products are supposed to rejoice their owner's hearts in the long term.

We want to achieve the sustainability of the products through a clear, preferably time-less form language and though the highest quality standards. Products that do not only appeal at first, but also at second, third or fourth sight are per se sustainable and ecological. The "Interior Innovation Award 2014 - Best of Best" for our foldable shelving system is an expression of this philosophy.

Besides our goal of “aesthetical timelessness” we pay attention to the use of sustainable material such as wood from sustainable forestry (FSC-/PEFC-certification) or stainless steel. Furthermore, the production is only Made in Germany, therefore the route of transportation is kept small. For the packaging material we look at both the use recyclable materials and the required high protection against transport damages.
