nARCHITECTS
nARCHITECTS, PLLC, is an architecture office founded in New York City by Principals Eric Bunge and Mimi Hoang. The work of nARCHITECTS encompasses architecture, urban design, and interiors, with a goal of uniting strategic thinking, environmental and social commitment, and technical innovation. In short, we achieve simple designs that produce a richness of experience, with an economy of conceptual and material means. Current projects in the office include a number of private and public realm projects, including: Pierscape, the redesign of the historic 3,000-foot-long Chicago Navy Pier, a competition won with James Corner Field Operations; the competition winning My Micro New York, New York City’s first micro-unit apartment building; and the Wyckoff House Museum in Brooklyn as part of the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation’s Design Excellence Program. Last year the firm completed construction of the ABC Dbayeh Department Store in Beirut and the first phase of the 3,000 foot long Ellicott Park for the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. We are currently selected for two Design Excellence lists, selected by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the NYC Department of Design and Construction. In all our projects, our architecture dynamically reframes, reflects or takes inspiration from its natural or urban context. Principals Eric Bunge and Mimi Hoang founded nARCHITECTS in 1999 after meeting at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. We share a mutual goal of joining innovative concepts, social responsibility and material invention in addressing contemporary issues. One of the hallmarks of our work is our ability to balance iconic presence with a nuanced sensitivity to physical and cultural contexts. Our work stands out, not apart from its context. nARCHITECTS was recently named “part of a select group crowned to lead the next generation of designers in the 21st century” by World Architecture News. National and international recognition includes a New York City Public Design Commission Award, two AIA NY Design Honor Awards, an AIA Design Merit Award, an AIA NY Building Type Merit Award, an Architect Magazine Annual Design Review Award, an AR+D (The Architectural Review) Award, The Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices, the Canadian Professional Rome Prize, Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard, the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program, and two New York Foundation for the Arts grants. A monograph of the studio’s work was released by Damdi in 2008.
