An exhibition of Bart Synowiec’s ''Systematic Compositions'' series is showcased at Mark Christopher Gallery (1594 Queen Street West, Toronto, Canada) until 20 December 2013. Systematic Compositions are artful constructions of hypnotizing scenes depicting empires, as well as social achievements on a smaller, human scale, in a state of ruin.

These configurations represent personal moments in the artist’s and viewer’s life when he or she wrestles with, or surrenders to, the impermanence of history, the idea of order and control as a social construct, and the fact of disorder, decline, and death.

Bart Synowiec is a Toronto-based fine art photographer whose primary works encompass forgotten and unfamiliar architectural and industrial environments.

Cooling Tower / Chromogenic Print / 22x33" / 30x45" / 40x60" / Edition of 15 / 2012

Despite the contrasting subject matter of these seldom seen locations, he strives to exhibit a sense of calm, order and balance through attention to detail, symmetry and composition. He searches for subjects that are rich in detail and classical in nature, framing them in a contemporary way.

Five Twenty / Chromogenic Print / 22x33" / 30x45" / 40x60" / Edition of 15 / 2012

The stylized presentation of Synowiec’s viewpoint contrasts with the random ways he stumbled upon his subjects. Stories layer upon stories, and Synowiec is both unknowing player and omniscient narrator in settings he both finds and shapes. His masterful approach to the final, symmetrical image leaves no detail undocumented and suggestions that the viewer can seek stillness and comfort in the repeating patterns and witness history in progress, a world in a constant state of motion, with some degree of compromise between eye and mind  (Antoinette di Michele).
