DESIGN_ Vienna Design Week (VDW) is Austria's largest design festival, with a variaty of locations and events in Vienna. National and international works of product, furniture, graphic and industrial design, such as experimental approaches are presented from today September 27 to Ocotber 6, 2013. Revealing the creative process of the production and to initiate projects are core elements of the festival´s concept.

During VDW, the city becomes a platform and showcase of design. In cooperation with designers from all over the world, Viennese museums and companies, the festival shows different approaches to design. International but local, sets out to be this year´s motto.

Design is more than just a designed object. VDW defines design as an essential part of the cultural production. The festival shows that design shapes our material culture, our every-day life and our world as consumers. Simultaneously, it influences our lifestyles and most fundamentally our aesthetic senses and judgements.

Therefore, VDW has based its mission on both, the celebration of design and on its critical examination. In the past years VDW became much more than just a festival: It is a design network that assembles the most important heads of culture, economy, media, politics and the creative scene.

Again this year the "Passionswege“ offer exciting design experiments and interesiting collaborations between international designers and Viennese manufacturers. Solo designers and design teams from Austria and abroad are invited to create objects and site-specific installations on the premises of old established Viennese businesses. The Passionswege also lead to parts of the city not especially known for their affinity for design.

The result of the collaboration, that works as exchange of knowledge and as creative project work, is free from usual constrains and commercial working realitionships and proofs the variaty of possible design solutions. Whether the end result becomes a porduct, an installations or another form of commentary: the aim is to reduce predjudices and fears of the unknown and to learn from the the exchange, for both components as well as the visitors of the festival.

The designers of this year’s ’’Coupling“ are:
- Hilda Hellström (SE) & Fessler Kamine
- Oscar Wanless (GB) & RIESS KELOmat
- Sebastian Herkner (DE) & Zur schwäbischen Jungfrau
- Bertille & Mathieu (FR/CH) & J. & L. Lobmeyr
- Sebastian Zachl (AT) & DONAUER DESIGN Lampenschirme
- chmara.rosinke (PL/AT) & Wäscheflott
