SMStudio is an interdisciplinary design firm specializing in sustainable modern homes. SMStudio is lead by Simon Montgomery, and is based in Vancouver, Canada.
Simon brings with him 15 years of experience, with a focus on contemporary residential design. He holds a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of British Columbia, and is a member of the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC).
The underlying ethos of the studio is the intention to improve the human experience through architecture. We aim to craft spaces and pieces that feel personal and reflective of those who inhabit them. From cabins and single family homes, to commercial space, furniture and products, each project represents a unique opportunity for creative invention and bespoke solutions.
Architecture, design and objects are given equal consideration and care, and are brought together in ways that feel authentic and timeless. Our work is grounded in the foundation of minimalism, devoid of the unnecessary, but rich in materiality and thoughtfulness, resulting in spaces and pieces that are artful and beautiful, yet humble. We are drawn to a restrained pallet of local, natural materials that not only speak to place, but also add an element of calmness and order to our increasingly chaotic world.
