A walkway from the city to the canal | Nadia Kueny

BRIEF _ To create connections thanks to architecture where infrastucture blocks it. _ Site: North of Paris at the intersection of Saint Denis Canal with Paris ring road. _ Programme : Theater, drama arts school, restaurants and facilities (total of 9000m²). _ Duration: 4 months from March 2013. CONCEPT _ The canal was built in the XIXth for industries. Nowadays, all the factories have been closed and the area is slightly reconverted. The project aims to extend this canal redevelopment to the north. _ Renovation of an industrial revolution era building into a theater. Its entrance is on the avenue via the new part: conexion to the past of the site. _ The roof of the new building creates a link between the city and the quay. People can join the quays from the avenue thanks to a disable-friendly path. _ Different theater topics are taught in the school such as acting, staging, costumes, scenery, prop and make-up lectures. Spaces are adapted for each one ( very high under ceiling for the scenery studio for example).
