Like these cranes, tiles are morphing in function and design. Too long tethered to mantlepieces, splashbacks and kitchen walls and echoing a nostalgic concept of design, tiles are now starting to take flight and find a more experimental form and feel. Morphing Cranes came about in the context of this transition. Initially developed in response to a Victorian fireplace, these tiles owe their vintage feel to the hand-pulled screen-printing process that creates each one, however their combination of symmetry and asymmetrical application locate them firmly in the contemporary.
