The Ekaterinburg Branch of the Russian National Center for Contemporary Art functions both as a museum and exhibition center and as scientific research organization. At present NCCA is a network institution with its branches in major cultural centers of Russia, such as St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Kaliningrad.

The idea of the project is the reminiscence of beautiful utopian idea of the museum in the bridge, that could connect the two banks of the Iset River. The design followed strict regulations that left the historical facade intact and extended the building's volume in the back. A number of minimum additions was designed providing both for all modern functions, at the same time being stylistically neutral and meeting the safeguarding policy.
The original layout of the overall building as well as its facades and surviving architectural elements remained intact. New elements are proposed to be set on the rear facade of the building, which is not a heritage site and doesn’t alter the building’s original outlook as viewed from the main city streets.
The new addition features a small waiting area, stairs and a glazed see-through terrace that also act as a main entrance canopy. The museum’s new addition provides both modern functions and an updated contrasting aesthetic
