Feltrinelli _ Reading in the cloud

The concept of the project is the link between technology and books. Instead of using technology to overcome the traditional book, we use it to improve the selling of it. This new approach matches with the news element. All the books focus on recent and important news, and a software system allows the customer to be always updated both on the news that on the books related to them. The interior design choices try to focus on the duality which characterises the concept. Ipads and touchscreens are placed along with books and are meant to improve the selling of the latters. Rough materials, as concrete resin and galvanised metal for the shelves, are combined with white and black polished Corian. All along the space LEDs footage of news and projections drive the customer to the core area, a polycarbonate structure inside which a specific software enhances the possibilities of books research. The duality described above is visible by the plans. The main design elements, the bookstands and newspaperstands are shaped in contrast with the rest of the environment characterized by linear features. In the sections is possible to understand how the core polycarbonate structure is located inside the building, placing itself where the skylight is originally located. Its peculiar shape makes it visible from the meeting room. Other view of the project that complete the interior design. In the entrance is possible to see how the interior design relates with the existing facade. In the office, simple distribution of furniture element creates a functional basic space, characterized by a narrow double height on the courtyard wall. The meeting room, a simple space organised to host a variety of meetings and events, that changes its design and feature by the use of light and projectors. Here we can see two different scenarios with the conferences of two important Feltrinelli’s authors such as S. Benni and A. Baricco.
