Next to the new cultural hotspot of Amsterdam, the ‘Overhoeks’ terrain in the North part of town, where the new film museum, Paradiso and luxury dwellings will rise, i29 rebuild a house into an oasis of rest and simplicity. The existing space is totally stripped and a new interior of 150m2 is realized. In a clear concept i29 strived for long sightlines and maximal spatial experience. The living floor has an open structure, with strategic placed openings to the several living areas. This geography makes the whole space perceptible. Two large sliding doors slide through the 10 meters wide house. A lowered volume, into where the sliding system is integrated, accentuates this width. The house can be divided into smaller, intimate spaces. A glass wall from floor to ceiling setts of the open kitchen from the staircase without cutting down on the sightlines. From here a wall of 6 meters high goes until the next level. A more closed plan for the sleeping quarters makes it more intimate, but the connecting hallway runs through the full width of the house and creates space. The wooden floor continues in the bathroom, which is divided from the master bedroom by sliding doors. The same wood is used for walls and doors in the bathroom. Natural materials such like wooden flooring and stone walls are combined with white cabinets and plastered walls. The restful scene is interrupted in a pleasant way by some black pieces of furniture.
