When the intervention place is sterile the effort of those who propose can be increased! It was not the case of this project, as being located in the centre of Lisbon, at Chiado, where every corner is overflowing history and also because a 5th and 6th floor (attic) with “cabin” views over Tejo River reinforces the exception of the place. The intervention focused on two key objectives - the union of two vertical flats which operated separately, assuming that the attic would be for social use and that the lower level would be for private use and redesign of the service areas - houses bathrooms and kitchen. A “vertical union” of two floors is both office and library ladder, a hybrid space where circulation and program are organized in a single element. The floor corresponding to the private area keeps the subdivision’s of the original house, the uses of space were briefly reviewed, for example in order to transform an old kitchen into a bathroom and in the attic only to the original wooden structure was maintained, denouncing the former subdivision - kitchen, lounge and dining merge into a single space in this way.
