[ENG] A teahouse (ikkodate) in the garrigue - One family house A steep pine forest The house is located in a village of 3000 inhabitants typical of the Herault (garigues, pine trees ..). The 2000 m² building plot, its vegetation and topography are typical of this region. This site enjoys a clear view overlooking the surrounding hills and the old village. The house is built on the highest part of the plot in order to protect the tall pine trees. Integrating the house to the slope The full house consists of 2 volumes linked together with a corridor (« gallery »). Both volumes have a different ground altimetry (about 1 meter) following the ground slope. From the top of the plot, the house seems anchored to the ground, only the roof remains visible. On the contrary, from below, the building seems raised from the ground. Day / Night spaces The two volumes match perfectly with the distribution program. The upper « day space » includes the leaving room, the kitchen and one guest room. The « night space » consists of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. A gallery links those two parts. A reference to the Japanese house In this project, we were highly inspired by the Japanese house especially for its organisation, structure, standardization, aesthetic and connection with the landscape. The core element of this arrangement is the garden, which gives a meaning to the house and its landscape. Timber frame house Roofs are thought of as two large blades. Thanks to their sheds the house is enlightened and ventilated naturally. These are carried thanks to a glulam column-beam system. The facades facing the garden can be entirely opened. They are protected from the sun using simple overhangs, wooden sun-visors and accordion shutters. The use of the gallery is flexible according to the different needs thanks to a glazing system and sliding shutters. The peripheral walls will be made of « Pignan's drystone ».
