Luxury Hotel Chongqing | Coop Himmelb(l)au

The new 5 Star Hotel and Office Tower is located in the Liangjiang new district of Chongqing. The site in a prominent position surrounded by a new important development area, close to the Two Road Cun Tan Free Trade Zone in the West and Export Processing Zone in the North. A figurative composition of rising loops diving in and emerging out of the landscape like a 3-dimensional stream of water creates a uniquely shaped sculpture on the hills of Chongqing. The highest loop forms a tower with two legs hosting Offices in the southern and a Hotel in the northern part while two technically separated lower loops offer high quality apartments. Stepped terraces and balconies of the apartments interpret the traditional stepped housing of Chongqing in a contemporary architectural language. Intersections with the landscape include commercial spaces and lobby areas to form a communicative inner courtyard on the site and to provide an open public flow on the ground floor. The whole composition is arranged to create a quiet inner garden plaza protected from outside noise and visual disturbance. The new building will become a distinctive and highly recognizable architectural icon in this area. From distinctive points of the city the significant 3 connected loops will appear in a strong relation with the landscape of Chongqing.
