Rimesse in Gioco

“Rimesse in Gioco” was a contest for urban requalification in Rome. An existing tram deposit had to move from Porta Maggiore area in the city centre and the free area had to be redesigned for housing, commercial and social use. Also the raised ring road was planned to be moved underground but the costs of demolishing the existing one would be too high, so a new use for it was demanded. High standards for open public spaces and green areas obliged the maximum use of every square meter. The project instead of dividing clearly the edified area from the open one wants to put them together and to mix them, so every building has a green public roof and many balconies. In this way the square meters of green spaces are the same as the whole project-area. The roof of the cinema becomes a cinema-garden, movies are projected on the palace in front . The ring road becomes a linear garden which people can use to cross the large rail-way section. Two main areas, residential and cultural, are divided by a dig section accommodating shops, the commercial area. The cinema is placed in the tram reparation hangar which is used in the project as a covered square. In the middle of the site is placed a panoramic tower. In the south corner a big parking with sport facilities on the roof and glass facade behind which trees are a visual filter.
