Concept: The re-conversion of the park Casa da Balança took as its point of departure the existing park and had as its objective to provide the community with a recreational/leisure area that is suitable to all generations.
Context: The entity that commissioned the project sought the elaboration and implementation of an architectonic project whose purpose was, firstly, to provide the village of Vila Franca do Campo with a thematic park for recreational/cultural activities and, secondly, for complementing the multifunctional rooms of the old Balança house with new leisure areas.
Programme: The architectonic project outlines the structure of a thematic park that takes advantage of the existing building. It projects three areas to be used by the community: Area 1) Casa da Balança-Community Area; Area 2) Support Module - Cafeteria, WC and Technical Areas; Area 3) Leisure Area, Playground; and Area 4) Leisure Area-Urban Furniture.
Strategy: The strategy adopted is based on a contemporary reinterpretation of the winery-houses of the municipality. The support module takes the form of a pergola/arched structure that is supported by the principal beam of Casa da Balança, forming an isosceles triangle and three scalene triangles with different internal angles and measures, thus generating an intuitive and dynamic element.
