Mexico City: the endless sprawled grey carpet. Nearly 20 million inhabitants co-exist in this chaotic environment. This project responds to the housing needs of a specific unattained group which I call the young urban professionals. Their limited options force them to rent an overrated flat near the central districts. Going micro responds to various layers related to economic, social and urban issues that build up the context. Affordability, interactive lifestyle, zoning and densifying are the four principal statements. Previous micro dwelling studies focus on designing the perfect living space within a minimum cell or container, placed on a beautiful landscape. Microspace Network is a research-based project that takes this notion a step further and explores the micro-principles in a context that brings interesting limitations and challenges. Influenced by Urban Think Tank and Lars Spuybroek’s notions, the Microspace Network is a project of transitions which seeks balance in the merging of a contextual and a theoretical discourse. Design, therefore is a multilayered acupuncture response to a complex variety of rhizomatic multidisciplinary elements that flow together within a specific time and a specific place: context, the battlefield for architecture.
