Designed as a holiday residence for five individual families as part of an extended family group, the residence needed to operate on a private and communal level, to allow different families to use the residence at the same time. As a response, the residence consists of a series of individual pavilions connected by a communal deck. The modular construction satisfies coastal erosion remove-ability requirements, achieve occupant safety at times of bushfire and provides private and communal interior and exterior spaces that can be enjoyed. To capture the 'holiday essence', the building's interiors were designed to exude a resort-like quality. The exterior facades of the pavilions are clad in copper sheeting and stained local hardwood timber. The unique choice of materials creates a warm, earthy palette and an individual quality that will intentionally allow the character of the building to change over time. The resolution of this particular pavilion-style residence has created a series of engaging spaces that are not commonly found in conventionally designed homes.
