Concept This building is based on the transfer project of the nursery school established in 1978. For reasons of the increase of the kindergartner in late years and the deterioration of the existing building, the new nursery school which expanded the scale largely was established newly. The main purpose in this project was to combine the open space and individual class rooms to develop free various activity of children. The site that the client got was a land of the considerably irregular form that the hills of the lush forest affected in the north side. Moreover, the cross-section of the land had to change a playground and the level of the nursery school building concerning neighboring height.At first, we put the necessary space repeatedly into this site form. But the scale grew too much bigger than the thing which we supposed. Then,we put a hall and play room together and extended the space using each sliding door to have flexibility. The important thing we found during long study was multi-story atriums in the center, and was that different zones connect together through this space.The undulating roof shape to cover up the whole building was inspired by the shape of the hills of the lush forest around the site. It was the biggest subject whether it can become the form with familiarity and harmony taking into consideration the internal required capacity. In addition, It was important to create big under the eaves space around the south side. The deep eaves provide an outside play space used as indoor extention to children at the same time they are useful for adjustment of the light from the sun.We used the wood for interior materials as much as possible. We expect that children can feel warmth and the gentleness of the tree enough. Room environment We made much of the design of the room environment (temperature, light, wind, noise,etc) considering the whole building as a connected thing through the voids. We researched from various aspects and inspected a position and the size of the effective voids and skylights. The sash which the room air is held out by an automatic sensor to a skylight window was very ideal. It was important to control natural light, wind, and heat from the sun while cutting out heavy equipment to live a comfortable life with nature.Children will become more sensitive to the change of the season and the weather. Exterior We plant a lot of various kinds of trees and flowers. Children discover various flowers and fruits through a season and can touch insects coming there. Children can learn the richness and a marvel of nature by oneself by playing in many plants.Time when the plant which grew greatly surrounded a building thinks us to be scenery of the last completion of this project.
