Workshop directed by Lulghennet Teklè at Unitec-Department of Architecture. Our contemporary world has become increasingly occularcentric. The ubiquitous presence of digital technology and its ability to record, transform and distribute images has intensified this dominance by the visual. The existing exhibition space of the department is used as the site for a Museum of Pacific Tectonics, which exhibited drawings and models of four house types from the Pacific region: Whare, Fale, Bure and Villa. This presentation describes the project and then discusses a number of architectural and pedagogical issues arising out of the experience. Of particular interest is the tension between the normal visual mode of assessing architectural student production and the criteria for good work required by the particular needs of the visually impaired people.
