Tree Tower Museum
......linked to the earth through the roots and connected with the sky thanks to its highest branches, the tree represents human beings both in their belonging to human world (the past) and in their aiming to the sky (the future)......
First of all we would like to state that our project aims at celebrating, through an easily recognizable symbol in the skyline of Manhattan, the harmonic weaving of different races and cultures, which live together in NYC. Secondly, we would like to convey the different emotions felt by the immigrated during the leaving from their own countries. The structure is immediately comprehensible : the inner body almost invisible, just like our soul, is made of glass and steel structural blocks; the outer body, which is powerful, solid and impressed in the concrete by irregular blocks, like the roots, ascending, becomes branches of tree simbolyzing the multicultural weaving.
At the basis of the tree we find the remembrance room, which thanks to the restitution of a particular atmosphere leads to the awareness of one's story and allows to its renovation.
The entrance to the very heart of the building is prepared by a half-light path with an almost sloping floor more and more narrow which leads to an elliptical space with a concave floor, inscribed in a cubic volume. Here, partly enlighted, there are some sculptures, disposed at random, representing the shape of the luggages and other personal objects which came to USA. After visiting this inner space, tourist enter a path which leads them towards "the light" to the different floors of the museum where the other services take place. On the first two floors there are the entrance hall with the reception and the cafeteria; than on the other floors the auditorium, the exhibition rooms, the library, the offices and the techical departments are placed, up to the seventh and the tenth floor where the building develops in two urban opened plazas with a beautiful sight of Manhattan. The last bigger urban plaza will lead the tourist to a moral and historical reflection...........we are on the top of the Tree...........
