Feuer & Flamme (holiday home)
In the village centre of Kunitz, 5 km from the centre of Jena.
On the Saale cycle path and the Saalehorizointale hiking trail.
Former house of the local fire brigade, formerly used as a meeting place.
Renovation 2021-2024, preservation of the quarry stone walls. Reactivation as a holiday home, cooking workshop, event venue and thus the centre of the village.

The idyllic landscape around Jena is an invitation to hike through the karstic slopes and gentle undulations of the meadows in the valley. The trail calls for a special end at Haus Feuer & Flamme.
The former building of the local fire brigade is transformed into a house for special experiences. Its location in the centre of Kunitz, within walking distance of the town of Jena, makes this building an object with public perception.
The building will be fundamentally remodelled and its sculptural form will be oriented towards a forecourt. The external cubature is orientated towards the existing building. Where there used to be gateways, the ground floor opens up to the south with wide windows. Instead of the former pitched roof, the building has been given two striking bonnets.
The interior is characterised by two skylights. Or are they two chimney flues in the former fire station? People meet in the spacious room, cook and dine together or round off the evening by the open fire. Those who wish can spend the night in the sleeping gallery.
The ground floor is a solid construction. The existing natural stone masonry is visibly integrated into the space and tells of the building tradition in the neighbourhood. Additions in brick and an exposed screed continue the material concept.
The ground floor is characterised by large, colourful and detailed furniture. In addition to the kitchen and storage areas, the bathroom and staircase are integrated on a mezzanine floor.
The top floor appears as a carpentry construction. Its panelling is finished in glazed wood surfaces and creates a cosy atmosphere. An exit to the roof terrace is located in the extension of the staircase. Sitting on a deep windowsill with a glass of Saale-Unstrut wine, you can enjoy the view over the valley and the evening sun.

The interior design of the historic fire station is based on the idea of a stage for every conceivable activity. Inspired by Japanese colour woodcuts from the world's oldest professional fire brigade, the design of the wooden surfaces and built-in cupboards forms a backdrop against which colourful mobile cooking trolleys and tables can be arranged according to use.
The duality of the building is reflected in the interior with the two striking roof bonnets. Every item is duplicated: Sofas, tables, cooker and can be positioned like Japanese chariots for cooking competitions.
The furniture, lights and curtains were specially designed for the house and follow the overall design concept.

Feuer & Flamme (Ferienhaus)

Am Saaleradweg und am Wanderweg Saalehorizointale.
Ehemaliges Haus der Ortsfeuerwehr, früher auch genutzt als Treffpunkt.
Umbau 2021-2024, Erhalt der Bruchsteinmauern. Reaktivierung als Ferienhaus, Kochwerkstatt, Veranstaltungsort und somit des Ortskerns.

Die idyllische Landschaft rund um Jena ist eine Einladung zum Wandern durch die karstigen Hänge und sanften Wellen der Wiesen im Tal. Der Weg verlangt nach einem besonderen Abschluss im Haus Feuer & Flamme.
Das ehemalige Gebäude der Ortsfeuerwehr verwandelt sich zu einem Haus für besondere Erlebnisse. Die Lage mitten im Ortskern von Kunitz, in fußläufiger Entfernung zur Stadt Jena macht dieses Bauwerk zu einem Objekt mit öffentlicher Wahrnehmung.
Das Gebäude wird grundlegend umgebaut und mit seiner skulpturalen Form zu einem Vorplatz hin ausgerichtet.
Die äußere Kubatur orientiert sich am Altbestand. Dort, wo vorher Toreinfahrten waren, öffnet sich das Erdgeschoss in breiten Fenstern nach Süden. Anstatt das ehemaligen Satteldachs erhielt das Gebäude zwei markante Hauben.
Der Innenraum wird von zwei Oberlichten geprägt. Oder handelt es sich um zwei Kaminabzüge im ehemaligen Feuerwehrhaus? In dem großzügigen Raum trifft man sich, kocht und tafelt gemeinsam oder lässt den Abend am Kaminofen ausklingen. Wer möchte, übernachtet auf einer Schlafempore.
Das Erdgeschoss präsentiert sich in massiver Bauweise. Das vorhandene Natursteinmauerwerk wird sichtbar in den Raum integriert und erzählt von der Bautradition in der Umgebung. Ergänzungen in Ziegel und ein Sichtestrich führen das Materialkonzept fort.
Ein großes, farbiges und detailverliebtes Möbel prägt das Erdgeschoss. Neben der Küche und Lagerflächen sind hier auf einem Zwischengeschoss das Bad und die Treppe integriert.
Das aufgesetzte Dachgeschoss tritt als Zimmermannskonstruktion in Erscheinung. Dessen Verkleidungen sind in lasierten Holzoberflächen ausgeführt und schaffen eine wohlige Atmosphäre. In der Verlängerung der Treppe befindet sich ein Austritt auf die Dachterrasse. Mit einem Glas Saale-Unstrut-Wein und auf einer tiefer Fensterbank sitzend, lässt sich der Blick über das Tal und die Abendsonne genießen.

Die Innenarchitektur des historischen Feuerwehrhauses geht von der Idee einer Bühne für alle erdenklichen Aktivitäten aus.

Orientiert an japanischen Farbholzschnitten der ältesten Berufsfeuerwehr der Welt, bildet die Gestaltung der Holzoberflächen und Einbauschränke einen Hintergrund, vor dem farbenprächtige mobile Kochwägen und Tische je nach Nutzung arrangiert werden können.
Dabei spiegelt sich die Dualität des Gebäudes mit den beiden markanten Dachhauben im Innern wieder. Jedes Ding ist doppelt vorhanden: Sofas, Tische, Herd und können gleich japanischer Streitwägen zu Kochwettbewerben in Position gebracht werden.
Die Möbel, Leuchten und Vorhänge wurden eigens für das Haus entworfen und folgen dem gestalterischen Gesamtkonzept.
