Angolo Trattoria

In many parts of the Mediterranean, dining seems to be a special cultural occasion.  In the countryside of Tuscany gathering around a table brings memories from remarkable moments, festive traditions and family reunions, all blended with a nostalgic feeling. This ritual remarks the design concept of Angolo, a traditional trattoria and pizzeria with authentic Italian recipes.

Situated in an eclectic-style former detached house, the interior space consists of various distinct units. A main corridor behind the entrance door greets the clients. Next to it, the seating area is laid in two rooms connected to each other through an arched doorway. Adjacent to the corridor, the kitchen area is separated from the rest of the space by an intermediate wall. A large opening permits the optical connection with the seating area, accentuating both the traditional wood baking oven and the pizzaiolo. The final space unit gathers all auxiliary functions, such as the storage room and the WC.

The exterior spaces include a semi-outdoor balcony as well as an outdoor courtyard.

Paying respect to the eclectic character of the building during the rehabilitation, many of its architectural features such as the main entrance door as well as the wooden shutters were kept and restored.

The design approach draws inspiration from the Tuscan dining culture. A series of rustic materials such as rectangular tiles, rustic wooden surfaces and wine red plaster are softly combined with refined ones, such as floral patterned wallpapers, polished marble surfaces and gold finishes. The renaissance style ceilings contrast gently with the dining tables and chairs referring to the “sale da pranzo” of Northern Italy, radiating a sense of hospitable elegance.

In the outdoor courtyard, a picturesque balcony prevails with its stairs and bespoke railing and highlights the exterior elevation. All the openings of the façade are showcased with white round edged frames, intending to create interesting gentle contrasts.

The overall result exudes a restful feeling blended with vivid memories from the past, offering a nostalgic experience.
