L’Atelier | A6A

L'Atelier, the term refers to manual work, the artisanal approach and the notion of pleasure that the agency tries to instill in each of its projects.

The premises we have invested in is a former modeler's workshop. We found many resonances with our approach to the profession in this space, an ideal place to realize our vision of architecture.

Due to its three-part composition: a garage on the street, a garden between four walls and a shed in the heart of the block, the whole thing lent itself perfectly to our agency project. We wanted to design a place for experimentation and meeting, which leaves room for manual work and research. A place where there is no distinction between nature and architecture, a timeless intervention in an existing building that we will never tire of over time.

The old shed in ruins had a diamond shape where only the four peripheral walls and the metal frame could be preserved. We came to open a wall to create the entrance door, with a height of 3.50, a value which was borrowed from the existing opening onto the patio and which will define a sky line within this space.

The interior organization was coordinated in such a way as to maintain a complete perception of the volume, only the meeting rooms and toilets form closed spaces. The metal trusses on the ceiling structure the new installations, each element responds in such a way as to form visual continuities throughout.

Three materials dominate the project: the concrete on the floor recalls the tectonics of the mass, the birch plywood fittings evoke the growth of wood and the acoustic flocking on the ceiling refers to a more celestial dimension.

We have ensured that this workshop is as self-reliant energy-wise as possible and frees itself from air conditioning, fossil fuels and any technological system that is too cumbersome. Heating of the whole is provided by a pellet stove, ceiling fans allow the heat to be distributed in winter and the air to circulate in summer.

A large glass roof on the roof provides overhead light throughout the year, it is protected by an exterior blind which regulates solar gain. The south side of the roof accommodates photovoltaic panels for self-consumption production which covers the agency's needs.

The existing building was very strongly insulated with wood wool on the periphery and on the roof, which, coupled with the Fermacell linings and the concrete slab on the ground, ensure very good thermal inertia. Small windows to the south and west allow natural ventilation through once the large windows onto the garden to the north are opened.

We intend that when a person enters this premises they have a spatial journey which reflects the philosophy of the agency, that while walking they have the time to experience the place which is revealed little by little. From the public space, three sequences punctuate this movement: the crossing garage, then the lush garden and finally the work workshop.

L'Atelier, el término hace referencia al trabajo manual, al enfoque artesanal y a la noción de placer que la agencia intenta inculcar en cada uno de sus proyectos.

El local en el que hemos invertido es un antiguo taller de modelismo. Encontramos muchas resonancias con nuestro enfoque de la profesión en este espacio, un lugar ideal para hacer realidad nuestra visión de la arquitectura.

Debido a su composición en tres partes: un garaje en la calle, un jardín entre cuatro paredes y un cobertizo en el corazón del bloque, el conjunto se adaptaba perfectamente al proyecto de nuestra agencia. Queríamos diseñar un lugar de experimentación y encuentro, que dejara espacio al trabajo manual y a la investigación. Un lugar donde no hay distinción entre naturaleza y arquitectura, una intervención atemporal en un edificio existente del que nunca nos cansaremos con el tiempo.

El antiguo cobertizo en ruinas tenía forma de rombo donde sólo se podían conservar las cuatro paredes periféricas y la estructura metálica. Se procedió a abrir un muro para crear la puerta de entrada, con una altura de 3,50, valor que se tomó prestado de la apertura existente al patio y que definirá una línea de cielo dentro de este espacio.

La organización interior se coordinó de forma que se mantuviera una percepción completa del volumen, sólo las salas de reuniones y los aseos forman espacios cerrados. Las vigas metálicas en el techo estructuran las nuevas instalaciones, cada elemento responde de tal manera que forma continuidad visual en todas partes.

Tres materiales dominan el proyecto: el hormigón del suelo recuerda la tectónica de la masa, los herrajes de madera contrachapada de abedul evocan el crecimiento de la madera y el flocado acústico del techo remite a una dimensión más celestial.

Nos hemos asegurado de que este taller sea lo más autosuficiente posible desde el punto de vista energético y se libere del aire acondicionado, de los combustibles fósiles y de cualquier sistema tecnológico demasiado engorroso. La calefacción del conjunto la proporciona una estufa de pellets, los ventiladores de techo permiten distribuir el calor en invierno y circular el aire en verano.

Un gran techo de cristal en el tejado proporciona luz cenital durante todo el año, está protegido por una persiana exterior que regula la ganancia solar. El lado sur de la cubierta alberga paneles fotovoltaicos para la producción de autoconsumo que cubre las necesidades de la agencia.

El edificio existente estaba fuertemente aislado con lana de madera en la periferia y en el tejado, lo que, junto con los revestimientos de Fermacell y la losa de hormigón del suelo, garantizan una muy buena inercia térmica. Las pequeñas ventanas al sur y al oeste permiten la ventilación natural una vez que se abren los grandes ventanales que dan al jardín del norte.

Pretendemos que cuando una persona ingresa a este local tenga un recorrido espacial que refleje la filosofía de la agencia, que mientras camina tenga tiempo de experimentar el lugar que se va revelando poco a poco. Desde el espacio público, tres secuencias marcan este movimiento: el garaje de cruce, luego el exuberante jardín y finalmente el taller de trabajo.
