PETIT GERVAIS is a 50 m2 ground-floor duplex overlooking an alleyway; it is mono-oriented, with one window and a velux window. The project sought to intensify the identity of this atypical space, notably through a clear-cut use of materials.

This small loft features 3 materials:

- Waxed concrete on level zero (living room and wc) and on the bathroom floor creates a base for the apartment, anchoring the activity space on the ground floor and accentuating the almost sculp- tural character of the staircase. The kitchen, in the same tones, is designed as an extrusion of the floor.

- The brick-colored ridge colonizes the ground-floor posts and then unfolds along the bathroom like a fold. It gives structure and rhythm to the apartment.

- 4 mirror strips in the kitchen credenza respond to the posts and reflect the light from the window, while a large round tinted mirror identifies the dining area while offering perspective to the darkest area of the apartment.

Activity spaces are thus qualified and exacerbated by the use of materials. In this way, the other, white- treated, dark areas fade away and are forgotten: the resting area, toilet block, fridge, entrance cupboard, mezzanine post, etc.

To optimize the budget, the toilets are left as they are, but fitted with a full-height bookcase that accompanies the staircase. The bookcase has 2 depths to accommodate various items: books, turntables, vinyls. Its removable top hides the water tank. The rest of the storage space is condensed into a dressing room, hidden by a curtain running the length of the apartment's blind wall, and includes the laundry area. The brick velvet curtain, like the kitchen on the ground floor, is an extension of a language present in the apartment. Opposite the library, another vertical screen responds to it: the glass paving stone wall of the bathroom, which creates the alcove required for this space while allowing light to pass through.

PETIT GERVAIS est un duplex en rez-de-chaussée d'environ 50 m2 donnant sur une venelle; mono-orienté, il dispose d'une fenêtre et d'un vélux.
Le projet a cherché à intensifier l'identité de cet espace atypique notamment par un travail tranché sur les matériaux.

Ce petit loft présente 3 matérialités :

- Le béton ciré présent au niveau zéro (pièce à vivre et wc) ainsi qu'au sol de bain crée un socle à l'appartement, il ancre l'espace d'activité du rdc et accentue le caractère presque sculptural de l'escalier. La cuisine dans les mêmes tons est pensée comme une extrusion du sol.

- La faîence de couleur brique colonise les poteaux du rdc et se dépoie ensuite le long de la salle de bain comme un pliage. Elle structure l'appartement, lui donne un rythme.

- 4 lames de miroir en crédence de la cuisine répondent aux poteaux et renvoient la lumière de la fenêtre tandis qu'un grand miroir rond teinté identifie l'espace dinatoire tout en offrant de perspective à la zone la plus sombre de l'appartement.

Les espaces d'activité sont ainsi qualifiés et exacerbés par l'usage de la matière. De se fait, par la négative les autres zones éteintes, traitées en blanc s'éffacent et se laissent oubliées : zone repos, bloc wc, frigo, placard d'entrée, poteau de la mezzanine ...

Afin d'optimiser le budget, les wc sont laissées telles quelles mais affublées d'une bibliothèque toute hauteur qui accompagne l'escalier. Celle- ci présente 2 profondeurs pour s'adapter à diverses fourni- tures: livres, platine, vinyls. Sa partie haute amovible cache la ballon d'eau. La reste du rangement est condensé dans un dressing caché par un rideau sur toute la longueur du mur aveugle de l'appartement et comprend l'espace buanderie. Le rideau en velours brique, à l'instar de la cuisine du rdc, est une prolongation d'un langage présent dans l'appartement. En vis-à-vis de la bibliothèque, une autre verticale tramée lui répond : la paroi en pavé de verre de la salle de bain permettant de créer l'alcôve nécessaire et à cet espace tout en laissant passer la lumière.
