The cool edge of the design

“I wanted to mix unexpected elements together,” says interior designer Peter Wilds. “For example, while the graphic black cords of the pendant over the locally made oak dining table are unobstructive to the openness of the space and view, they have an installation-like vibe. The custom diamond tufted upholstered bed has a classic elegance. Pairing it with clean lined modern oak side tables and lean architectural lamps creates an unlikely and yet harmonious and calming relationship. I love blending styles, shapes and eras.”

In the living room, the cool sculptural Bowy Cassina sectional by Patricia Urquiola, together with a custom diamond tufted ottoman, whimsical side tables, and the dynamic lines of the occasional chair speaks to this mix.

More storage, less clutter

“A major request for a lot of additional storage was high on the wishlist,” remembers Peter Wilds. “Working this into an open concept space and ensuring it did not add clutter or make rooms look and feel smaller was an important part of this brief.”

- A custom designed storage cabinet of 14 feet (or 4 meters) runs the length of the wall in the dining area. A lot of toys are stored behind those doors.

- A separate floor to ceiling shoe cabinet graces a corner of the hall that leads to the private quarters of the apartment.

- A fully reconfigured ensuite closet occupies the area behind the custom diamond tufted headboard in the principal bedroom.

- Peter Wilds Design increased the size of the kitchen by removing a space-limiting glass solarium that was rarely used and truncated the existing kitchen.

A bright atmosphere

- The home’s relationship to ever present natural light was the guiding principle for the calming and timeless layered palette.

- The floor to ceiling windows and uninterrupted view from the 35th floor drove the material selection:

Wide plank Austrian matte oak floors provide a warmth and tactile experience that establishes a grounding base for the more dynamic terrazzo and organic patterned tile selected for all bathrooms.
A serene backdrop of soft whites and cool grays creates an effective backdrop for the playful punches of black with the lighting and plumbing fixtures.
Warm wood tones mix with textural linen and wool.
- “While offering a cozy and inviting experience, all elements maintain a sense of light and openness,” says Peter Wilds. “There is a tremendous flowthroughout. I wanted to maintain this experience, while still infusing the home with a relaxing vibe.”

A curated selection of  furniture

“We did not need a lot of furniture for each room,” says Peter Wilds. “Carefully curated pieces with a sculptural quality and detail were selected and scaled to the space.”

The project in one sentence

A relaxing, light filled, open concept home with a cool modern edge and all the necessary storage for a young active family.

How did the project start?

“They are clients that I worked with on a previous project,” says interior designer Peter Wilds. “When they decided to purchase a larger space in the same building, on a higher floor, they asked me to assist them with a full renovation of the apartment.”, says Peter.
