A client, who is literally chased around the world several times a month by his specialization and indispensability, decided to anchor with his family in one of the older terraced houses, perhaps coincidentally, "within sight" of the airport. It is a three-storey terraced house with a semi-closed basement, with a front garden and rear garden, and a view from the upper floors far out into the landscape of the mountain Bílá Hora (where a famous battle took place). The house already has a lot of advantages, but as it happens, it still needed to be half demolished, rebuilt and completely re-equipped with 21st century infrastructure in order to really exploit its full residential potential.

When we arrived, the backbone of the terraced house was a gently depressing steel staircase walled off in a dark corner of the house. We started by drawing it into the living area and cutting spaces out between the flights of stairs. This brightened the staircase and made inhabiting the vertical house a more social affair than the original strictly separated floors allowed, thanks to the new sightlines. This was not entirely easy, as the floor structures are hollow core slab ceilings, implemented in the 1970s by the inhabitants themselves, just as the whole building was built or renovated by them. Therefore, it was necessary to double-check every step with a structural engineer and a builder to avoid any unpleasant surprises and to prevent any risk of injury to the contractor, just in case the bricklayers had underestimated something somewhere in the past. The overall rehabilitation entailed, in addition to the strengthening of the house, a complete replacement of the internal infrastructure, including electrical connections, replacement of windows, insulating the facades, demolition and rebuilding of the terrace, repairing the roof, replacement of all surfaces and many other compositions. Major changes were also made to the layout, where we rearranged the internal workings, relocated some rooms to opposite sides of the house, or connected the kitchen to the living area and staircase simultaneously through an opening in a load-bearing wall at the very limit of the structural engineer's courage.

We then finished the interior to make it beautiful for its inhabitants, so they could live in it as if it were one endless holiday.

Klient, kterého jeho specializace a nepostradatelnost „honí“ několikrát měsíčně doslova po celém světě, se rozhodl zakotvit s rodinnou v jednom ze starších řadových domů, snad shodou náhod „na dohled“ od letiště. V třípodlažním řadovém domě s polozapuštěným suterénem, s předzahrádkou i zahradou, s výhledem z vyšších podlaží daleko do bitevní bělohorské krajiny. Většinu bonusů již dům má, ale jak to tak bývá, přeci jen ho bylo třeba zhruba z poloviny pobořit, přestavět a kompletně převybavit infrastrukturou 21. století, aby bylo možné skutečně využít jeho obytný potenciál naplno.

Když jsme přišli, páteř řadového domu tvořilo jemně depresivní ocelové schodiště zazděné v tmavém koutě domu. Začali jsme tím, že jsme jej vtáhli do obytného prostoru a v podlaze si vyřízli tzv. schodišťové zrcadlo. Tím se schodiště prosvětlilo a obývání vertikálního domu se stalo díky novému průhledu více společenskou záležitostí, než umožňovala původní přísně oddělená podlaží. Nebylo to úplně jednoduché, neboť podlahové konstrukce tvoří hurdiskové stropy, realizované v 70. letech svými obyvateli osobně, tak jako je nakonec svépomocí zhotovena celá stavba. Proto bylo nutné se statikem a stavbou prověřit každý krok dvakrát, abychom se nedočkali nepříjemných překvapení a předešli rizikům úrazu pro zhotovitele, kdyby někde v minulosti zedníci-laici něco podcenili. Celková rehabilitace znamenala kromě ztužení domu i kompletní výměnu vnitřní infrastruktury, včetně úpravy elektro přípojky, výměnu oken, zateplení fasád, demolici a znovupostavení terasy, opravu (přestavbu) střechy, výměnu všech povrchů a mnoha skladeb. Velké změny proběhly i v dispozici, kde jsme přeorganizovali vnitřní provoz, přehodili některé místnosti na opačné strany domu, než bývaly, či propojili kuchyni s obytným prostorem a schodištěm současně otvorem v nosné zdi na samé hranici statikovy odvahy.

Interiér jsme pak dotvořili tak, jak jsme zvyklí – aby byl krásný pro jeho obyvatele a žilo se jim v něm jako na jedné nekonečné dovolené.
