Child care centre Melbourne / Australia / 2018
A new child care/ early learning centre was proposed for the eastern suburbs.
The centre was designed to accommodate 120 children at the rear of an existing commercial site. A feasibility study was conducted to determine the optimal layout to satisfy the design brief and regulatory requirements.
The proposed tri-point layout fits comfortably within the site and allows for surrounding open green space/ play areas to be located directly off classrooms. The layout also allows a central administration hub to maintain uninterrupted views out, for supervision and surveillance.
Simple platonic forms enclose the floor space and evoke an elementary idea of “home” for children, when approaching the building and also within.
